چکیده
The present study makes a consistent attempt to evaluate promising additive manufacturing (AM) processes and materials for marine structural applications, paving the way development of additively manufactured light-weight composites. main objective is analyse performances fibre-reinforced plastics (FRP) produced by AM applications. In particular, tensile response chopped continuous carbon-fibre-reinforced thermoplastics have been investigated through destructive non-destructive testing, considering influence process settings thermal post-manufacturing treatments. results demonstrate that are potentially suited since their capacity superior minimum imposed Classification Society Rules. However, mechanical properties FRP currently lower than conventional carbon fibre reinforcement far more effective one, deposition pattern significantly influences capacity. annealing treatment enhances approximately 10%, decreasing material ductility defects.

The advantage of additive manufacturing (AM) (e.g. reasonable time and expense in prototyping, and reliable product) has triggered the idea of using this method in manufacturing of marine vessels components. The current article tries to introduce basic concepts of AM method and its application in marine industry; have a glance at additive-manufactured parts microstructure; elaborate the challen...
متن کاملMarine Applications of Natural Fibre-Reinforced Composites: A Manufacturing Case Study
The rising concern about environmental issues and the need to find a realistic alternative to glass or carbon-reinforced composites have led to an increased interest in polymer composites filled with natural-organic fibers, derived from renewable and biodegradable sources. The scope of this article is to raise awareness regarding the current scientific and technological knowledge on these so-ca...
متن کاملSome observations in grinding unidirectional carbon fibre-reinforced plastics
This paper investigates the grinding performance of epoxy matrix composites reinforced by unidirectional carbon fibres, using an alumina grinding wheel. Emphasis was placed on understanding the effect of fibre orientations and grinding depths on the grinding force and surface integrity, and on understanding the grinding mechanisms, with a comparison to orthogonal cutting. It was found that grea...
متن کاملCellulose Fibre-Reinforced Biofoam for Structural Applications
Traditionally, polymers and macromolecular components used in the foam industry are mostly derived from petroleum. The current transition to a bio-economy creates demand for the use of more renewable feedstocks. Soybean oil is a vegetable oil, composed mainly of triglycerides, that is suitable material for foam production. In this study, acrylated epoxidized soybean oil and variable amounts of ...
